Travel Tips

I. Getting to the Shangri-La Hotel from Beijing’s Two Major Airports

Beijing has two main airports: Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) and Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX).
The Shangri-La Hotel Beijing is located at 29 Zizhuyuan Road, Haidian District, near Zhongguancun and the Summer Palace.

Option A: From Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK)

  • Distance: Approx. 30 km
  • Travel time: 40–60 minutes
  • By taxi or ride-hailing (most convenient)
    • Pick-up point: Follow the airport signs to the taxi stand (clearly marked at all terminal exits).
    • Fare: Approximately CNY 120–150 (including toll fees).
    • Tip: Show the driver the hotel address in Chinese:
      北京市海淀区紫竹院路29号北京香格里拉饭店(紫竹桥附近)
    • Ride-hailing: You may book via the DiDi app (available in English; registration with an overseas mobile number required).

Option B: From Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX)

  • Distance: Approx. 50 km
  • Travel time: 60–80 minutes
  • By taxi or ride-hailing
    • Fare: Approximately CNY 180–220 (including toll fees).

II. Practical Tips

  1. Payment Methods
    • Currency exchange is available at bank counters in both airports.
    • Taxis accept cash; ride-hailing services require a linked credit card. Carry small bills for convenience.
    • Alipay and WeChat Pay can be linked to international credit cards (accepted in most but not all locations).
  2. Internet & Communication
    • Purchase a short-term SIM card or rent a portable Wi-Fi device at the airport for easy navigation and connectivity.
  3. Language Assistance
    • Download a translation app (e.g., Google Translate).
    • English is spoken at the hotel front desk.
  4. Around the Shangri-La Hotel
    • Walking distance: Zizhuyuan Park, National Library of China.
    • Subway access: Line 4 provides direct routes to the Summer Palace and Old Summer Palace (Yuanmingyuan).
    • Nearby areas: Zhongguancun (technology and shopping), Weigongcun (local food street).

III. Important Notes

  • Rush Hours: Weekdays 07:00–09:00 and 17:00–19:00. Allow extra time for travel during these periods.
  • Airport Signage: Both Capital and Daxing airports have clear English signs — follow the “Taxi” indicators.
